Dr. Moeller-Bertram is our Chief Medical Officer, and joined us from Coastal Pain and Spinal Diagnostics in the San Diego area. Prior to going into private practice, Dr. Moeller-Bertram held an appointment as associate clinical professor of anesthesiology and psychiatry and as the director of clinical pain research at the University of California San Diego. He is double-board certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Management. After finishing his medical school in Hamburg, Germany and defending his doctoral thesis about the effects of oxidative stress, he moved to the USA for his clinical training. He completed his anesthesia residency at UCSD and was given the honor to serve as chief resident. He received his education in multi-disciplinary pain management, including intensive training in all invasive aspects of alleviating pain, at UC San Francisco, which ranks among the best pain departments in the world. Dr. Moeller-Bertram returned to San Diego 2005 as an assistant clinical professor and also enrolled in a masters program for clinical research. He joined the VA San Diego Healthcare System and established his pain clinic there serving the Veteran population. These humbling and rewarding years of serving Veterans profoundly impacted his career and shaped his research efforts. Besides keeping a busy practice, he conducted many experiments to better understand the effects of stress on pain perception. His areas of expertise include PTSD and fibromyalgia and he received funding and support from sources including the “Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research”, the ‘Center of Excellence for Stress and Mental Health” and industry leaders. During his years at UCSD and the VA, he served as the director for clinical pain research at UCSD, published numerous papers and book chapters and presented his work at many national and international conferences as guest lecturer or visiting professor. Dr. Maira Sabah graduated with Bachelors of Science in Human Biology from Cleveland Chiropractic University in Overland Park, KS. She received her Doctor of Chiropractic from Southern California University of Health Sciences in Whittier, CA. She worked at the physical medicine and rehab department at Los Angeles Veterans Affairs Medical Center, where she had the opportunity to work with many veterans and veteran families for her clinical experience. After the VA hospital, Dr. Sabah moved to the big apple where she spent two years working at a multi-disciplinary clinic. She moved back to her home state California after gaining experience in New York City to join Desert Pain Clinic. Dr. Sabah is associated with the American Chiropractic Association.
Dr. Sabah specializes in many soft tissue techniques, manual therapies and chiropractic adjustments. She has experience with wellness care, rehab, geriatrics, post-surgery, student athletes and women health. She specializes in relieving low back, upper back and neck pain. Dr. Sabah focuses on the patient and approaches with the treatment plan that best suits individual’s needs to achieve their optimal health.
Dr. Sabah loves travelling and exploring new places. She has travelled to forty states in the United States, and ten countries internationally. In her free time she enjoys cooking and looking at destinations for her next travel.
Dr. Luis Gonzalez has been a practicing Doctor of Chiropractic for 27 years. He is a graduate from National College of Chiropractic in Lombard, Illinois receiving his Bachelors in Human Biology in 1988; elective studies in Acupuncture; Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 1990; and Post-Graduate training as a Certified Chiropractic Sports Practitioner in 1992.
Dr. Gonzalez has been in active practice in the Los Angeles area since 2005 focusing on wellness care, sports injuries, personal and occupational medicine.
Prior to practicing in Los Angeles, Dr. Gonzalez practiced in Miami for 11 years between 1994 and 2005, and for 4 years in Chicago from 1991 through 1994.
Dr. Gonzalez obtained his certification in 2005 as a Qualified Medical Evaluator through the State of California Division of Workers Compensation.
Prior to recently joining Desert Pain Clinic Institute, Dr. Gonzalez had the opportunity over the last seven years to practice in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills with multi-disciplinary specialists in the fields of internal medicine, pain management, orthopedic surgery and neurosurgery.
In addition to his 27 years of practice experience in chiropractic, Dr. Gonzalez has also worked in the medical legal arena with emphasis in peer review, utilization review, treatment guidelines, disability and permanent impairment.

Tisa Anderson has been in private practice for thirteen years. She graduated with a Masters of Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2002, from The American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in San Francisco. Chinese Medicine is her passion, she began studying it in 1994 at The Acupressure Institute in Berkeley. She believes that acupuncture and Chinese medicine can help people achieve the balance and great health they desire.
Tisa has a diverse background, she has worked in holistic health clinics with Chiropractors and Massage Therapists, she worked with Hospice for 7 years and has worked in the drug and alcohol treatment field for five years. She also specializes in Acupuncture Facial Rejuvenation, better known as acupuncture facelifts. She has seen wonderful results with getting rid of facial sagging and puffiness and diminishing fine lines and wrinkles. Tisa also loves working with children, her youngest patient was three months old. She treats chronic pain, digestive issues, emotional imbalances, stress, fatigue, and women’s health issues.
Tisa is very excited to be working at Summit Institute. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family, doing yoga, hiking, reading and going to the beach.
